QI host and all-round British treasure Stephen Fry might not be the first name that comes to mind when Man vs Wild star Bear Grylls embarks on another all-out assault on nature, but the unlikely duo have teamed up for some extreme camping in the latter's Wild Weekend programme.

The television adventurer revealed that Fry had been "amazing" but that the brutal conditions had left him "exhausted and broken".

“We were in crazy weather conditions, 1,000ft wall climbs and camping out in caves, and climbing down massive waterfalls,” Grylls said at the launch of Escape From Hell, for the Discovery Channel. “He was exhausted and broken, but amazing.”

There was even a cheeky nod towards to Fry's roles as General Melchett and sidekick Captain Darling in Blackadder, when Chief Scout Grylls added: “There was lots of 'Good night, general’, and 'Good night, darling’.”
