The Ryeland Farm caravan and camping site in Beck Row, Bury St Edmonds has been approved by Forest Heath District Council on Wednesday.

The caravan and camping site with room for 15 plots is scheduled to be opened in July-August, while an agricultural barn on the land will be transformed into a shop selling camping supplies and a new toilet block will be constructed.

The development on Ryeland Farm was masterminded by Robert Newman, the owner of the land, who was in consultation with a former employee of M&M leisure.

Mr Newman said: “This is about creating jobs and the regeneration of the countryside.”

Already in use as camping and caravanning facilitiy, the land currently operates as a caravan storage area and has about 150 caravans on it at any one time.

James Waters, Leader of Forest Heath District Council said: “It’s not a sustainable farm, it’s a working farm and this is an excellent scheme to create jobs in a rural area.”
