With the UK set to enjoy an extended heatwave this month, campers are flocking to sites throughout Britain with domestic stay-cations being the way to go this sunny season.

As the mercury rises, temperatures are expected to break the 30C mark again, Britons are facing the longest period of hot weather since a fortnight of blazing sun in 2006.

Hot weather at home means no need to chase the sun overseas as holidaymakers are breaking out the tents and carvans and hitting the UK's coasts. Shares in package holiday firms meanwhile have fallen dramatically as vacationers shun expensive trips abroad during the continued financial recession.

Shares in Thomson and First Choice fell as much as 4.5% and 3% respectively before closing at 365.5p and 142.6p respectively. Forecasts have suggested that the hot weather will continue until the beginning of August at least. Good news for Britain's beaches and campsites, not so great for the overseas tour companies!
